Lamb Supply and Demand Down

With Greek Easter behind us, demand for slaughter lambs has declined, along with the large supply. Compared with last week, lambs under 90 lbs. sold much lower at New Holland Sales Stables (PA). Lambs over 90 lbs. were in much shorter supply and sold steady. 1,419 lambs sold at New Holland on April 24, compared to 1,977 the previous week and 2,275 a year ago.

There were 733 goats sold, compared to 1,060 the previous week and 1,493 a year ago. Slaughter kids sold $6-$10 higher than last week. Billies were $8-$10 higher, while nannies sold $8-$10 weaker. All goats are sold by the head with estimated weights.
