The 2013 Maryland Wool Pool was held June 19 at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium. Prices were below last year. Surprisingly, the coarse wool brought the highest bid.
Wool prices remain significantly above the support price ($0.40 for ungraded wool), so producers are not eligible for LDPs (loan deficiency payments) this year.
A wool classing school was held in conjunction with this year's wool pool. The school attracted participants from multiple states. The instructor was Dr. Ron Pope, manager of the Producers Marketing Cooperative and wool consultant with the American Sheep Industry Association.
