We've got bucks!

As of September 1, seventeen (17) bucks from the 2011 Western Maryland Pasture-Based Meat Goat Performance Test have met Gold, Silver, and Bronze standards of performance for growth, parasite resistance, and parasite resilience.

These top-performing bucks will be available for purchase (via silent auction) on September 24, 2011, at the annual Western Maryland Field Day & Sale. The bidding period will be from 12 noon to 2 p.m. A handful of does will also be available for purchase via private treaty.

Current top-performing buck:  1/2 Kiko x 1/2 Boer

A preliminary sale list and order is available HERE. The sale list and order will be updated after September 15 to reflect final weights and scores. Two more sets of fecal egg counts will also need to be factored into the test.

The sale list and order will be updated on September 19 to reflect the last egg count data. Keep checking the web page for updated information. Pictures still need to be added for most of the bucks.

Much can still change in the sale list and order, as some bucks may fail to gain weight during the rut. The wet weather may also have an effect on final weight gains. Keep in mind that these bucks do not receive any supplemental feed while on pasture.

Looking for a Boer buck that is resistant to parasites?

The sale bucks include various breeds and crosses, commercial and registrable bucks. Bucks not meeting Gold, Silver, and Bronze performance standards may be purchased via private treaty.

A considerable amount of data has been collected on each buck. If you're serious about meat goat production, this is the BEST place to buy a buck (or two).  No where else can you find bucks with documented performance. Producers need to learn how to separate genetics from environment.

Introduce a new breed:  top-performing Savanna x Spanish
