Sheep mutilated near Frederick, MD

A criminal investigation is under way into the mutilation of a female sheep in a barn in the 9500 block of Bethel Road, according to the Frederick County Division of Animal Control. The 225-pound ewe was killed after being removed from a pen in a barn. Her 1-week-old lamb was with her.

The ewe was found decapitated. Her right rear leg had also been removed. The crime occurred after the owners left the barn about 8:15 p.m. on Friday, February 2. The 3-year-old Dorset ewe belonged to Kim and June Weedy.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call animal control at (301) 694-1546 or the Frederick County Sheriff's Office at (301) 600-1046. A $1,500 reward is being offered to anyone whose tips lead to an arrest and conviction.
