31-year old New Zealander Dion King set a new world record for shearing sheep. Starting at 5 a.m., King sheared 866 lambs, breaking the old record of 851 lambs, set by Justin Bell in 2004. Under World Shearing Records Society rules, King had four breaks -- totalling 3 hours -- and finished at 5 p.m.
Lying on a massage table afterwards, King said: "Until you do the record, you don't know the pain involved."
Heading into the final run, King was nine lambs ahead of the old record, but still needed to shear an average of one lamb every 35 seconds.
