The USDA has confirmed today (3/13/06) that a third case of bSE ("mad cow" disease) has been identified in the United States. This most recent case was from a cow in Alabama that was ill and no longer could walk. The herd veterinarian euthanized the cow, took tissue samples, and submitted them for evaluation by USDA. The critical tests were conducted and bSE was confirmed.The meat from this cow did not enter the food-chain, and the carcass was buried on the farm in Alabama.
