Pasture and grazing workshop

There will be a New Concepts in Pasture and Grazing Management Workshop for Livestock and Horse Owners on Saturday, September 29, 2012, from 9:15 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) in Princess Anne. The morning session will include a lecture and the afternoon session will provide hands-on activity.

The keynote speaker is Dr. Don Ball, Extension Agronomist and Professor Emeritus at Auburn University. Workshop topics will focus on yearround rotational grazing for livestock and utilizing tall fescue and bermuda grass in conjunction with sericea lespedeza (a forage which shows promise for managing internal parasite burdens in sheep and goats). Other sessions will focus on grazing behavior, extended grazing, and reducing stored feed costs.

The registration fee is $15 per person and includes educational materials and lunch. For more information, contact Kayla Parmar at (410) 651--6070 or kjparmar@umes.edu. Register online at www.umes.edu/1890-MCE/.
