As interest in unpasteurized, or "raw" milk increases, a new Purdue University Extension publication helps separate fact from fiction over the safety of raw milk consumption.
"Raw Milk FAQs," Extension pubication AS612-W, is available for free download from http://www.extension.purdue.edu/extmedia/AS/AS-612-W.pdf. The seven-page publication was written by Extension Dairy Specialist Mike Schultz and Extension Educator Mike Ferree.
Schultz said the publication is intended to add to the public dialogue as lawmakers consider whether to regulate raw milk, what a regulatory system should look like, and how best to protect both consumer choice and public health.
"This publication provides the scientific facts behind milk pasteurization, its benefits, and issues related to consuming raw milk," Schultz said.
