Mandatory microchipping of dogs and cats

There is a bill currently before the New York House of Representatives Agricultural Committee that would require mandatory microchipping of dogs and cats over 4 months of age. Feral cats and temporarily kept dogs would be exempt.

The microchip would contain the owner's contact information and the dog's medical history. The bill would create a registry of dogs. The registry would be made available to veterinarians, shelters, and kennels for the purposes of identification.
